Prince’s Trust Canada celebrates their 100th entrepreneur workshop for members of the military community
This spring, Operation Entrepreneur, a program of Prince’s Trust Canada, hosted their 100th introduction to entrepreneurship workshop. These one-day workshops are held on military bases across the country and help veterans and members of the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) decide if entrepreneurship is right for them.
Operation Entrepreneur started in 2012 with a specific and ambitious goal to provide entrepreneurship training to veterans and members of the CAF through seven-day entrepreneurial boot camps. In 2013, Operation Entrepreneur began to offer one-day introduction to entrepreneurship workshops to educate members of the military community and their families about the key considerations of starting a business. Workshops fill an important need by allowing members of the military community to consider entrepreneurship and its impact on them and their families before making a significant commitment of time and money.
In 2018 Prince’s Trust Canada delivered 19 workshops on military bases across the country. The workshops are taught in French and English by Entrepreneurs in Residence, experts on starting and running a business.
During the intensive one-day workshop, participants spend the morning learning about the realities of entrepreneurship, how to network and how the skills they gained during their careers in the military can be utilized as entrepreneurs. In the afternoon the focus shifts to an introduction to business planning; from financing to marketing, participants are shown how to translate their ideas into sound business plans. Participants also hear testimonials from veteran entrepreneurs and learn about resources available in their community.
The transition out of military life and culture can be a difficult process. Faced with an overwhelming number of possibilities for the future, members of the military community need the right information and support to make an informed decision and smooth transition. Operation Entrepreneur’s unique focus on the military community allows it to empower these transitioning individuals as they consider and engage in entrepreneurship.
